The Family Star Movie Review

THE FAMILY STAR 2024

In Family Star, directed by Parasuram Petla, we witness the lives of Govardhan (played by Vijay Deverakonda) and Idumati (portrayed by Mrunal Thakur). Govardhan, a devoted middle-class individual, juggles family responsibilities, prioritizing their welfare over personal desires. Idumati, an Anthropology student, enters his life, setting the stage for unexpected developments. How does Govardhan's life change after meeting Indu, and how does he end up in the US?

Flash Movie Review Team Review

Family Star is a family drama that is supported by powerful performances but suffers from poor story development and execution. The movie starts off strong, introducing the audience to the characters and doing a good job of establishing them. The main idea—that each generation contains a star who will change the path of the family—is a compelling one.

But the tale falls flat in execution, especially after the interval. The story takes a nosedive, losing its emotional resonance. While Mrunal Thakur captivates in both tragic and lighthearted situations, and shares noticeable chemistry with Vijay Deverakonda in the film's first half, Vijay Deverakonda shines as the accessible yet complex Govardhan. Even though Parasuram gets some excellent performances, he has trouble integrating them into a gripping story that resonates emotionally.

Govardhan's representation of his family struggle with his elder brother lacks complexity and appears rushed. Furthermore, the representation of the characters' lives in the United States, notably the relationship between the leads, could be improved. Supporting performers Jagapathi Babu, Vasuki, Abhinaya, and Vennela Kishore perform well in their parts, with Kishore providing humorous relief as Smarth.
Family Star benefits from Gopi Sundar's music and KU Mohanan's photography, which enhance the film's decent production qualities. Despite a promising setting and outstanding performances, the film eventually fails due to an uninspired narrative and a lack of emotional depth in important relationships.

While the lead actors deliver commendable performances.
